Quilting Queens Earrings Spring/Summer 2013

I'm so excited to share one of the first earring designs, "Quilting Queens" from the Aye' Shanti Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.

Quilting Queens are inspired by the quilting traditions of America with the use of various fabrics from the Caribbean, Africa and India. Each earring design tells a story of the past with a modern feel. This was inspired by my college thesis, "Women of the Sun: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives of Caribbean Women's Work" - where I discussed her daily life including the life of my grandmother, Hilda Juanita Keens Douglas and the beauty and mysticism I saw in her Singer sewing machine. Our Macy's Flower Show Mini Book!

If you haven't been to the Macy's Flower Show in NYC, you must go check it out! It's from Sunday March 25- April 7th (so head over there TODAY)! This year's theme is Brazil: Garden in Paradise and it's in a lovely tent filled with tropical flowers and works of art! To truly capture the memory of this trip with my bf, I put together a cute mini book filled with photos and some of the information from the pamphlet they had at hand. I absolutely loved the font and pattern of the Brasil, if you look closely, each letter has a distinctive tribal NEON pattern  (I know WillieburgScrapper at My Analog Life would love it for the neon, check out her blog which is all about NEON crafting today, so sad I missed out!)
Here's a tip, when putting together a scrap, brag or mini book from a trip or vacation, save as much as possible like ticket stubs and pamphlets, it's perfect for additional pieces to add to your book! Oh!! And check out some  amazing video footage from the show    BELOW thanks to Spiceklyn!! 

Spring/Summer 2012 peek

Now that Spring is here, I'm so excited to showcase the latest designs in the coming weeks. Look out for splashes and mixes of colors, fabrics and shapes.This time around, I was not bashful atal'! Also, I've added a new line of bracelets that I can't wait to reveal. Look out for more inspired sketches from my journals giving you a sneak peek of what's to come!

"Well-Behaved Women Seldom..."

This morning while working on my 30 Days of Lists Challenge Day 5, "Words to Live By", I remembered a quote when I was studying Women's Studies in college. It stated, "Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History"—Laurel Thatcher Ulrich,  and I thought how profound it was to me. When we examine the ways the women have shaped our lives with a voice, without fear, with an incredible sense of courage...  I am proud of all the women who Miss Behaved to make History!

Marching into Spring... Journals, Jewels and Pretty Things!

So, I know it's not exactly spring yet, but for some reason, anytime the month of February ends, it feels like it's officially spring time... It's a bit gloomy here in NYC, but that's alright with me. I love a lil' rain while I work or organize my daily journaling. This month is filled with lots of projects, especially one in particular that 'm sponsoring called 30 Days of Lists!
