Quilting Queens Earrings Spring/Summer 2013

I'm so excited to share one of the first earring designs, "Quilting Queens" from the Aye' Shanti Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.

Quilting Queens are inspired by the quilting traditions of America with the use of various fabrics from the Caribbean, Africa and India. Each earring design tells a story of the past with a modern feel. This was inspired by my college thesis, "Women of the Sun: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives of Caribbean Women's Work" - where I discussed her daily life including the life of my grandmother, Hilda Juanita Keens Douglas and the beauty and mysticism I saw in her Singer sewing machine. Midsummer Isle's Dream Collection 2012

It's 1am and I'm up adding finishing touches to orders, projects and preparing for the release of a collection I call "Midsummer Isle's Dream". These designs are filled with color, flair, riddim and a mix of fabrics and metals. I was so inspired by the mix of my Caribbean roots and Urban settings, that I somehow enjoy sketching designs that merges both worlds. I currently have a few of the pieces up and ready for purchase in my SHOP so definitely check it out.

Spring/Summer 2012- Behind the Scenes Video and Photography

Yaaaay! I'm so excited to share some behind the scenes footage from the Aye' Shanti Spring/Summer 2012 Collection! We had the privilege of using a lovely location at the swanky Downtown Brooklyn hair salon, www.Solbkny.com! Inspired by my Caribbean roots and urban culture, this season’s designs are funky, colorful and sooo bright!  I’ve also created a line of bracelets and charms that are the perfect arm candy for layering with bangles.  We also had the opportunity to shoot some DIY projects for the blog, so I’m really excited about that.  In the mean time, enjoy this video and don’t forget to sign up to get updates!! Spring/Summer 2012 peek

Now that Spring is here, I'm so excited to showcase the latest designs in the coming weeks. Look out for splashes and mixes of colors, fabrics and shapes.This time around, I was not bashful atal'!
